Leander Paes

Leander Adriano Paes (born June 17, 1973) is an Indian professional tennis player widely considered one of the greatest doubles specialists in tennis history. Born in Bangalore to a military family, Paes turned professional in 1992 and quickly established himself as a formidable doubles competitor. His remarkable career spans over three decades, during which he won 18 Grand Slam doubles titles and 2 Grand Slam mixed doubles titles, competing alongside various partners including Mahesh Bhupathi, with whom he formed one of the most successful Indian doubles teams. Paes won an Olympic bronze medal in singles at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics and has competed in six Olympic Games, earning medals at each. His versatility allowed him to excel in all three tennis disciplines—singles, doubles, and mixed doubles—across grass, clay, and hard courts. Known for his aggressive net play, competitive spirit, and longevity, Paes continued competing at the highest levels well into his forties, making him one of tennis's most enduring competitors.
