Lance Armstrong
Former Tour de France champion, doping scandal
Lance Edward Armstrong is an American former professional racing cyclist and sports executive who rose to international prominence after his victories in the Tour de France. Born in 1971, Armstrong won seven consecutive Tour de France titles from 1999 to 2005, becoming a global icon and symbol of athletic achievement. However, in 2012, he was stripped of all his Tour de France titles and banned from competitive cycling for life after admitting to an extensive doping program using performance-enhancing drugs throughout his career. Prior to his cycling career, Armstrong survived testicular cancer that had spread to his abdomen, brain, and lungs, which made his athletic comebacks seem even more remarkable at the time. His fall from grace following the doping scandal became one of the most significant controversies in sports history, fundamentally changing how the cycling world and sports authorities approach anti-doping measures.

Thinking about the name
Lance
French origin
“Derived from the Old French 'lance,' referring to the weapon of medieval knights, this name embodies chivalry and nobility. Lance gained popularity in the mid-20th century as a streamlined, energetic name with romantic medieval undertones. It strikes a balance between classic strength and accessible brevity.”
