Kwasi Kwarteng
Conservative MP, former Chancellor of the Exchequer, economic policy expert
Kwasi Poku Kwarteng (born May 26, 1975) is a British Conservative politician and Member of Parliament for Spelthorne since 2010. He studied Classics at Trinity College, Cambridge, and worked as an investment banker before entering politics. Kwarteng held several ministerial positions including Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, where he focused on green energy transition and industrial strategy. In September 2022, he became Chancellor of the Exchequer under Prime Minister Liz Truss, but his tenure lasted only 49 days, making it the shortest chancellorship in British history. His mini-budget announcement, which included significant tax cuts without clear funding sources, triggered market turmoil and contributed to the government's rapid collapse. Beyond politics, Kwarteng is an accomplished author who has written extensively about economics, history, and British political thought. He remains an influential voice in Conservative circles and continues to serve in Parliament.

Thinking about the name
Kwasi
African origin
“From Akan (Twi) tradition, Kwasi means 'born on Sunday,' parallel to Kwame (Saturday) but with its own distinct cultural significance. The name connects to West African temporal naming systems and has gained recognition through African and African-American communities honoring their ancestral heritage.”
