NBA legend, five-time champion, 'Mamba Mentality', 81-point game

Biography

Kobe Bean Bryant (August 23, 1978 – January 26, 2020) was an American professional basketball player who is widely regarded as one of the greatest players in NBA history. Born in Philadelphia but raised partly in Italy due to his father's basketball career abroad, Kobe entered the NBA directly from high school in 1996, signing with the Los Angeles Lakers. Over his 20-season career, he established himself as a scoring virtuoso and fierce competitor, winning five NBA championships (2000, 2001, 2002, 2009, 2010) and earning 18 All-Star selections. His 81-point game against the Toronto Raptors in 2006 remains one of sports' most iconic performances. Kobe's 'Mamba Mentality'—his relentless pursuit of excellence and continuous self-improvement—became a cultural phenomenon extending far beyond basketball. He was known for his work ethic, basketball IQ, and competitive intensity. After retirement in 2016, Kobe became an entrepreneur, Oscar-winning filmmaker, and devoted father. His tragic death in a helicopter crash in 2020, along with his daughter Gianna and seven others, shocked the world and cemented his legacy as a transformative figure in global sports culture.
