Biography

Kobe Bean Bryant (August 23, 1978 – January 26, 2020) was an American professional basketball player widely regarded as one of the greatest players in NBA history. Born in Philadelphia to Joe Bryant, a former NBA player, Kobe was raised partly in Italy before his family returned to the United States. He was drafted directly from high school by the Charlotte Hornets in 1996 and was immediately traded to the Los Angeles Lakers, where he spent his entire 20-season career. During his time with the Lakers, Bryant won five NBA championships (2000, 2001, 2002, 2009, 2010), was an 18-time NBA All-Star, and was the 2008 NBA Most Valuable Player. Known for his fierce competitiveness, technical skill, and 'Mamba Mentality'—a philosophy emphasizing relentless pursuit of excellence—Bryant revolutionized basketball with his scoring ability and work ethic. He retired in 2016 and pursued various business ventures and philanthropic endeavors. His tragic death in a helicopter crash in 2020 deeply impacted global sports culture, and he remains an iconic figure whose influence transcends basketball.
