Kitty Carlisle (September 3, 1910 – April 17, 2007) was an American actress, singer, radio personality, and television game show panelist with a career spanning more than six decades. Born Catherine Conn, she adopted the stage name 'Kitty Carlisle' early in her theatrical career. She appeared in films and on stage during the 1930s and 1940s, including an appearance in the Marx Brothers film 'A Night at the Opera' (1935). However, Carlisle became most famous for her appearances as a panelist on the game show 'To Tell the Truth,' where she became a beloved fixture from 1956 through the 1980s. Her sophisticated wit, charm, and memorable one-liners made her a fan favorite and helped define the show's appeal. Beyond television, Carlisle was an accomplished singer with multiple recordings to her name. She was also an arts advocate, serving as the host of the PBS series 'Vaudeville' and promoting the arts throughout her life. Carlisle's longevity in entertainment and her gracious, intelligent presence made her an icon of twentieth-century American popular culture, and she remained active and beloved by audiences well into her later years.
