Kenzo Takada

Kenzo Takada (February 27, 1939 – October 4, 2020) was a pioneering Japanese fashion designer who founded the influential luxury brand Kenzo in Paris in 1970. Moving to France at age 21, Takada initially worked as a freelance designer before establishing his own house, which became known for its bold use of color, exotic animal prints, and imaginative layering techniques that drew inspiration from both traditional Japanese textiles and global cultural references. His designs were revolutionary for their time, challenging the minimalism and restraint of contemporary haute couture by introducing vibrant patterns and unconventional combinations.
