Kent Nagano

Kent Nagano (born November 22, 1951) is an American conductor of Japanese descent who has become one of the most prominent and respected orchestral leaders of his generation. Born in Berkeley, California, Nagano studied at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and began his conducting career in the 1970s. He served as the music director of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra from 2006 to 2020, leading the ensemble to international acclaim and helping establish it as one of North America's finest orchestras. Nagano has also held prestigious positions as general director and artistic director of major European opera houses and orchestras, including the Bavarian State Opera. His interpretations of classical, romantic, and contemporary music have been praised for their clarity, depth, and innovative approaches. Nagano has recorded extensively and conducted world premieres of contemporary compositions.
