Juan Manuel Santos Calderón (born August 10, 1951) is a Colombian politician and diplomat who served as the 34th President of Colombia from 2010 to 2018. Born into a prominent Colombian family with deep ties to journalism and politics, Santos studied at the University of Kansas and the London School of Economics. Before his presidency, he served as Minister of Finance and Public Credit under Álvaro Uribe. As president, Santos pursued ambitious social and economic reforms while navigating the complex peace process with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC). His most significant achievement was negotiating and implementing the historic Colombian peace agreement, officially ending over 50 years of armed conflict. For his dedication to peace, Santos received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2016, becoming one of the few Latin American leaders to receive this honor.
