Jana Novotná

Jana Novotná (October 2, 1968 – November 19, 2017) was a Czech professional tennis player widely regarded as one of the greatest doubles specialists in tennis history. Born in Brno, Czechoslovakia, Novotná initially competed as a singles player with notable success, including reaching the Wimbledon final in 1997 where she was defeated by Martina Hingis. However, her greatest achievements came in doubles and mixed doubles competitions. She won an impressive 24 Grand Slam titles across doubles and mixed doubles events, partnering with players like Helena Suková and establishing herself as a formidable force on the doubles circuit. Novotná's success spanned multiple decades, with her first Grand Slam doubles victory coming in 1990 and her last in 2006. She was known for her strategic intelligence, exceptional net play, and mental toughness in competitive matches. Beyond her playing career, Novotná became an ambassador for tennis and contributed to the sport's development.
