Jacob Zuma

Jacob Gedleyihlekani Zuma (born April 12, 1942) is a South African political figure who served as the fourth president of South Africa from 2009 to 2018. Rising from humble origins in rural KwaZulu-Natal, Zuma joined the African National Congress (ANC) youth movement as a teenager and became involved in anti-apartheid struggle, enduring imprisonment on Robben Island for 10 years alongside Nelson Mandela. Following apartheid's end, Zuma held various political and military positions, eventually becoming vice president under Thabo Mbeki. He was elected ANC president in 2007 and became national president in 2009.
