Isabella Rossellini
Actress, David Lynch collaborator, environmental advocate
Isabella Rossellini (born June 18, 1952) is an Italian actress, filmmaker, model, and environmental advocate who represents several generations of Italian cinema excellence. Born to legendary Swedish actress Ingrid Bergman and Italian director Roberto Rossellini, Isabella was immersed in cinema from birth. She began her career as a model and translator before transitioning to acting, appearing in Italian television and film. Her breakthrough came in David Lynch's 'Blue Velvet' (1986), a role that established her in American cinema and led to further collaborations with Lynch, including 'Wild at Heart' (1990) and 'Inland Empire' (2006). Beyond Lynch's surrealist aesthetic, Rossellini has worked in sophisticated European cinema, appearing in films by Wim Wenders, Jean-Luc Godard, and others. She has also directed documentaries and feature films, demonstrating her multifaceted artistic engagement. Rossellini is particularly known for her environmental activism, establishing the Manifesto for the Future after her appointment as a UN Environment Programme Goodwill Ambassador. Her willingness to discuss aging in Hollywood, her work as an older model and actress, and her advocacy for women's rights have made her an influential figure beyond entertainment.
