Isabel Allende (born August 2, 1942) is a Chilean-American author whose works have sold more than 57 million copies worldwide, making her one of the most popular contemporary authors globally. Born in Lima, Peru to a Chilean diplomat family, Allende grew up across multiple countries and drew upon her multicultural experiences in her writing. Her debut novel 'The House of the Spirits' (1982) became an international bestseller and established her reputation as a master of magical realism blended with historical narrative. The novel chronicles multiple generations of a family against the backdrop of Chilean history and showcased Allende's ability to weave personal stories with broader historical events.
