Hughes Cuénod

Hughes Cuénod (June 26, 1902 – December 6, 2010) was a Swiss tenor and opera singer who maintained one of the longest and most distinguished careers in music history, performing professionally for over seven decades. Born in Vevey, Switzerland, Cuénod studied voice and quickly established himself as a versatile and intelligent interpreter of opera roles, working with major opera companies across Europe and the United States. He became known for his impeccable diction, musicality, and ability to interpret both classic opera roles and contemporary works with equal skill. Cuénod performed at prestigious venues including La Scala in Milan, the Metropolitan Opera in New York, and Covent Garden in London. He was particularly celebrated for his interpretations of Mozart and Debussy, though his repertoire extended across centuries of operatic literature. Remarkably, Cuénod continued performing well into his 90s and was still active musically after age 100, making him one of the longest-performing musicians in history.
