Herman Cain (December 13, 1945 – July 30, 2020) was an American businessman, political activist, and Republican politician who became a prominent figure in American politics during the 2010s. Cain had a successful career in the private sector, serving as CEO of Godfather's Pizza and as a corporate executive for various companies. He became nationally prominent as a vocal critic of President Barack Obama and champion of the Tea Party movement, articulating conservative economic philosophy and promoting his '9-9-9' tax reform plan. In 2011 and 2012, Cain ran for the Republican presidential nomination, gaining significant support among conservative voters before his campaign ended amid personal controversy. His campaign and public advocacy brought Tea Party perspectives to mainstream political discourse and influenced Republican Party positions on taxation and government spending. Cain was also a radio talk show host and frequent television commentator, maintaining a visible presence in conservative media. Later in his career, Cain was involved with various business ventures and political organizations. Though his political career was ultimately controversial and brief at the national level, Cain's influence on Tea Party politics and his role in bringing business perspectives to presidential politics remained notable. Cain passed away in 2020.
