Hattie Jacques

Hattie Jacques (7 February 1922 – 10 October 1980) was a British actress and comedian who became an iconic figure in British entertainment, particularly known for her starring roles in the hugely popular Carry On film series. Born in Storrington, West Sussex, Jacques trained as an actress and dancer and worked in pantomime and stage comedy before finding her greatest success in films. She appeared in 14 Carry On films between 1958 and 1969, often playing the role of Matron, bringing warmth, authority, and impeccable comic timing to her performances.
