Harvey Weinstein

Harvey Weinstein (born March 19, 1952) is a former film producer and studio executive whose decades-long influence in Hollywood ended dramatically in 2017. Born in Queens, New York, Weinstein co-founded Miramax Films with his brother Bob in 1986, transforming independent cinema and championing acclaimed directors and films. Through the 1990s and 2000s, Miramax released numerous critically acclaimed and commercially successful films, earning Weinstein recognition as a powerful figure in the entertainment industry. However, in October 2017, The New York Times and The New Yorker published investigations documenting decades of sexual harassment and assault allegations against Weinstein from numerous women in the entertainment industry. These revelations triggered widespread accusations from more than 80 women and catalyzed the #MeToo movement, which exposed systemic sexual misconduct across industries. Weinstein was convicted of rape and sexual assault in 2020 and sentenced to 23 years in prison.
