Gianluigi Buffon (January 28, 1978 – present) is an Italian professional footballer who is widely considered among the greatest goalkeepers in history. Born in Carrara, Italy, Buffon rose through the ranks of Italian football before joining Parma in 1995, where he made his professional debut. His exceptional performances earned him a transfer to Juventus in 2001, where he spent 17 consecutive seasons becoming the backbone of the club's defense during their most successful period. With Juventus, Buffon won numerous Serie A titles, Coppa Italia trophies, and reached two UEFA Champions League finals. At the international level, he earned 176 caps for the Italian national team and played in four FIFA World Cup tournaments, helping Italy win the 2006 World Cup in Germany. Known for his commanding presence, reflexes, distribution, and consistency, Buffon set numerous records including the most Serie A appearances and clean sheets. After leaving Juventus in 2018, he played for Paris Saint-Germain and later returned to Serie A with other clubs.
