Galen Rupp (August 8, 1986) is an American professional long-distance runner and one of the most decorated American distance runners of the 21st century. Born in Portland, Oregon, Rupp developed his running talent under the mentorship of legendary coach Clyde Hart and within the elite University of Oregon program. He achieved major success at the 2012 London Olympics, winning a silver medal in the 10,000 meters and bronze in the 5,000 meters, becoming the first American male runner to win two medals at a single Olympics in these events since 1908. Rupp subsequently transitioned to marathon running and earned a silver medal in the marathon at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
