Gabriel García Márquez

Gabriel José de la Concordia García Márquez (March 6, 1927 – April 17, 2014) was a Colombian novelist, short-story writer, screenwriter, and journalist widely regarded as one of the most significant authors of the 20th century. Born in Aracataca, Colombia, García Márquez studied law and journalism before pursuing his passion for writing. His masterpiece, 'One Hundred Years of Solitude' (1967), tells the multi-generational story of the Buendía family in the fictional town of Macondo, blending magical elements with realistic narrative in a style that defined magical realism. The novel became a global phenomenon, translated into numerous languages and selling millions of copies worldwide. In 1982, García Márquez received the Nobel Prize in Literature for his novels and short stories that have achieved artistic excellence and opened new paths for the novel in the Americas. His other notable works include 'Love in the Time of Cholera,' 'Chronicle of a Death Foretold,' and 'Autumn of the Patriarch.'
