Fredric Brown

Fredric Brown (October 29, 1906 – March 31, 1972) was an American science fiction and mystery writer celebrated for his ingenious short stories and novels that blended speculative fiction with detective fiction and dark humor. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Brown worked various jobs before becoming a full-time writer in the 1930s. He became prolific in pulp magazines, contributing to publications like "Amazing Stories" and "Detective Tales," where his quick wit and clever plotting earned him a devoted following. Brown's short stories are particularly remarkable for their economy of language and surprising twists — many of his best works deliver profound or comedic revelations in just a few pages. Notable works include the science fiction novel "What Mad Universe" (1949) and the mystery novel "The Fabulous Clipjoint" (1947), the latter winning the Edgar Award.
