Fletcher Pratt

Fletcher Pratt (April 25, 1897 – June 10, 1956) was an American author, editor, and historian who made substantial contributions to science fiction, fantasy, and historical literature. Born in Asheville, North Carolina, Pratt developed an early interest in writing and quickly became a prolific contributor to pulp magazines and later mainstream publications. He collaborated with L. Sprague de Camp on numerous science fiction and fantasy works, co-authoring the 'Compleat Enchanter' series, which became seminal works in fantasy literature and influenced generations of fantasy writers. Beyond fiction, Pratt was a respected military historian, authoring definitive works on naval history and military campaigns, including his acclaimed 'A History of United States Naval Operations.' His dual expertise in imaginative fiction and historical analysis was unusual and made him a unique voice in mid-century American letters. Pratt also worked as an editor for various pulp magazines and anthologies, helping to shape the emerging science fiction and fantasy genres.
