Ethan Couch

Ethan Couch (born April 11, 1997) is an American individual whose 2013 vehicle accident and subsequent legal proceedings gained widespread national attention and sparked significant public debate about wealth, privilege, and criminal justice. On June 15, 2013, Couch was driving a pickup truck in Burleson, Texas, while intoxicated. His vehicle struck a group of pedestrians, killing four people and injuring nine others. Couch was arrested and charged with multiple counts of intoxicated manslaughter. During the legal proceedings, juvenile psychologist Dr. G. Dick Miller testified that Couch suffered from 'affluenza,' a term referring to the psychological dysfunction resulting from excessive wealth and privilege that allegedly prevented him from understanding the consequences of his actions.
