Erwin Schrödinger

Erwin Rudolf Josef Alexander Schrödinger (1887–1961) was an Austrian-Irish theoretical physicist who made groundbreaking contributions to quantum mechanics and quantum theory. He is best known for formulating the Schrödinger equation in 1926, a fundamental equation in quantum mechanics that describes how quantum systems evolve over time. This work earned him the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1933, shared with Paul Dirac. Beyond his mathematical contributions, Schrödinger is widely recognized for proposing the famous thought experiment "Schrödinger's Cat," which illustrates the counterintuitive nature of quantum superposition and remains central to discussions about quantum mechanics' interpretation. He spent much of his career at universities across Europe and was deeply engaged with philosophical implications of quantum theory. His 1944 book "What is Life?" profoundly influenced the development of molecular biology.
