Ermias Joseph Asghedom (August 15, 1985 – March 31, 2019), known professionally as Nipsey Hussle, was an influential American rapper, entrepreneur, and community activist from Los Angeles. Born to Eritrean immigrant parents, Asghedom grew up in the Crenshaw neighborhood of South Los Angeles, which became central to his artistic identity and activism. He gained significant recognition for his independent approach to music distribution and ownership, famously selling his album 'Crenshaw' for $100 per copy and later signing a record deal with Atlantic Records while maintaining creative control through his All Money In label. Beyond music, Nipsey was deeply committed to community development, investing in real estate and businesses in Crenshaw to combat gentrification and create economic opportunities for residents. His Grammy-nominated album 'Victory Lap' (2018) received critical acclaim and solidified his position as one of hip-hop's most respected voices. His legacy encompasses not just his contributions to rap music but his vision of using entrepreneurship and community investment as tools for social change.
