Emmerson Mnangagwa
President of Zimbabwe since 2017
Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa (born September 6, 1942) is a Zimbabwean politician who has served as the President of Zimbabwe since November 2017. Born in Kwekwe, Mnangagwa had a long political career dating back to the struggle against colonial rule in Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe). He held various ministerial positions under Robert Mugabe, including Vice President from 2014 to 2017, before Mugabe's removal from office. Following a military intervention in November 2017, Mnangagwa assumed the presidency with promises of reform and economic recovery. His administration has pursued policies aimed at attracting foreign investment and stabilizing the Zimbabwean economy, though his tenure has been marked by both international engagement and domestic political challenges. Mnangagwa has attempted to improve Zimbabwe's international relations and has worked on land reform and infrastructure development initiatives. His presidency represents a significant transition in Zimbabwean politics, marking the end of Mugabe's nearly four-decade rule. Mnangagwa's political career reflects the complex history of Zimbabwe's independence and the ongoing challenges of governance and development in post-colonial Africa.
