Emanuel Macron
President of France, centrist reformer, EU leader
Emmanuel Macron (born December 21, 1977) is a French politician and the 25th President of France, serving since May 2017. Born in Amiens, northern France, Macron studied philosophy and later economics, becoming a banker at Rothschild & Cie before entering politics. He served as Minister of Economics, Industry and Digital Affairs under President François Hollande from 2014 to 2016, where he championed economic reforms and labor market liberalization. In 2016, Macron founded En Marche! (later renamed La République En Marche), a centrist political movement that positioned itself outside traditional French left-right politics. His 2017 presidential campaign was groundbreaking, and at age 39, he became France's youngest president in over two centuries. Macron's presidency has focused on EU integration, climate action, digital innovation, and structural economic reforms, though his policies have been controversial and sparked significant protests. He was re-elected in 2022, making him only the second French president in the Fifth Republic to win a second consecutive term. Internationally, Macron has played an influential role in European politics and attempted to mediate conflicts, particularly regarding Ukraine and relations with Russia.
