Elwyn Brooks White

Elwyn Brooks White (July 11, 1899 – October 1, 1985) was an American writer, editor, and essayist whose lyrical prose style and keen observations of human nature made him one of the most influential American writers of the 20th century. Born in Mount Vernon, New York, White became a founding contributor to The New Yorker magazine, where his essays and "Talk of the Town" pieces set the magazine's witty, urbane tone for decades. However, he is most celebrated for his children's literature, particularly Charlotte's Web (1952), a timeless tale of friendship between a pig named Wilbur and a spider named Charlotte that has enchanted generations of readers. His other beloved children's books, Stuart Little (1945) and The Trumpet of the Swan (1970), showcase his ability to blend humor, pathos, and profound wisdom in accessible narratives.
