Drew Brees
NFL quarterback, Super Bowl XLIV champion, all-time passing yards leader
Andrew Walter Brees (born January 15, 1979) is a retired professional football quarterback who is widely considered one of the greatest to ever play the position. After being drafted by the San Diego Chargers in 2001, Brees spent five seasons there before joining the New Orleans Saints in 2006, a signing that transformed both his career and the franchise. With the Saints, Brees became the face of the team and the city during its post-Katrina recovery, leading New Orleans to victory in Super Bowl XLIV in 2010. Throughout his career, Brees set numerous NFL records, including most career passing yards and touchdown passes before his retirement. He was a 13-time Pro Bowl selection and earned Super Bowl MVP honors for his exceptional performance in the championship game. Beyond his on-field accomplishments, Brees is known for his philanthropic work, particularly in New Orleans, and his strong Christian faith. His leadership, work ethic, and consistency made him a role model for younger players. After retiring in 2023, Brees has transitioned to broadcasting and other business ventures while remaining involved in charitable efforts.

Thinking about the name
Drew
Greek origin
“Originally a nickname for Andrew, itself derived from the Greek Andreas meaning 'strong' and 'manly,' Drew emerged as a standalone name in its own right. Short, punchy, and gender-neutral, Drew gained popularity as a given name in the mid-20th century, carrying both literary charm and athletic ease.”
