Dirk Werner Nowitzki (born June 19, 1978) is a retired German professional basketball player widely regarded as one of the greatest power forwards in NBA history and one of the most successful international players in basketball. Selected 9th overall in the 1998 NBA Draft by the Dallas Mavericks, Nowitzki spent his entire 21-season career with the franchise, becoming the face of the organization and leading them to their first NBA Championship in 2011. Standing 7 feet tall with exceptional shooting range for his position, Nowitzki revolutionized the power forward position by developing a nearly unstoppable one-legged fadeaway shot that became his trademark. He was a 13-time NBA All-Star, a 12-time All-NBA selection, and the 2007 NBA MVP. In the 2011 playoff run, Nowitzki delivered one of the greatest individual performances in Finals history, averaging over 26 points per game while leading Dallas past the Miami Heat. Over his career, he accumulated 31,560 points, ranking him among the all-time scoring leaders.
