David Ruffin (January 18, 1941 – June 1, 1991) was an American soul singer who became the legendary lead vocalist of The Temptations from 1964 to 1968. Born David Eli Ruffin in Mississippi, he joined the group during their ascendancy at Motown Records and became the distinctive voice behind some of their greatest hits, including 'My Girl,' 'Ain't Too Proud to Beg,' and 'I'm Losing You.' His powerful, emotional vocal delivery and stage presence made him one of the most recognizable figures in 1960s soul music. Ruffin's tenure with The Temptations coincided with the group's commercial peak, and his voice defined the group's sound during their most celebrated period. After leaving the group in 1968, he pursued a solo career with varying degrees of success.
