Crescentia von Kaufbeuren

Crescentia von Kaufbeuren (1682–1744) was a German Franciscan tertiary mystic and saint whose extraordinary spiritual life and unwavering devotion attracted the attention of the Catholic Church and earned her canonization nearly fifty years after her death. Born in Kaufbeuren, Bavaria, Crescentia demonstrated profound spiritual commitment from her youth, joining the Franciscan tertiary order and dedicating herself to a life of prayer, penance, and service to others. Throughout her life, she reported experiencing numerous mystical visions and ecstatic experiences, which she documented and shared with her spiritual directors and confessor, providing what many viewed as authentic religious experiences. Her reputation for holiness extended beyond her religious community; she became known for her wisdom, counsel, and compassionate care for the sick and poor.
