Connie Chung
Pioneering broadcast journalist; first Asian-American network news anchor; CBS, NBC, ABC
Connie Chung (born August 20, 1946) is an American broadcast journalist who became one of the most prominent news anchors in television history. Born Constance Yu-Hwa Chung in New York City to Chinese immigrant parents, she grew up in Washington, D.C., and developed an early interest in journalism. Chung graduated from the University of Maryland and began her journalism career at local television stations before moving to major networks. She worked as a reporter and anchor for NBC, gaining recognition for her investigative reporting and interviewing skills during the 1970s and 1980s. Chung then moved to CBS News, where she became one of the first women to anchor a network evening news broadcast, co-anchoring the 'CBS Evening News' briefly. She later worked for ABC News and continued her career as a prominent broadcast journalist and interviewer. Chung is particularly known for her exclusive interviews and hard-hitting investigative journalism, including her interview with Kitty Dukakis (wife of presidential candidate Michael Dukakis) that caused controversy. Beyond her broadcasting career, Chung has been an author and has appeared in various television and media projects. She was a trailblazer as one of the first Asian-American news anchors on major American television networks, breaking barriers in a field that was predominantly white and male. Her career demonstrated excellence in journalism and helped open doors for journalists of color. Chung's legacy includes not only her journalistic accomplishments but also her role in diversifying television news and proving that women and minorities could lead in major broadcasting roles.

Thinking about the name
Connie
Latin origin
“Originally a nickname for Constance (Latin 'constans,' meaning steadfast or faithful), Connie emerged as its own name in the early 20th century, particularly for girls. It has warm, friendly associations—approachable yet with underlying strength. The name also saw masculine use as a diminutive of Connor in Irish contexts.”
