Clevie Browne

Clevie Browne (born 1954) is a Jamaican drummer and music producer best known as one half of the legendary rhythm section partnership Sly and Robbie, alongside bassist Robbie Shakespeare. Beginning his career in the 1970s, Browne became renowned for his innovative drumming style that helped define the modern reggae sound. As part of Sly and Robbie, he worked on countless albums and collaborated with major reggae artists including Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, and Bunny Wailer, as well as international acts like Joe Cocker and The Black Uhuru. Beyond performing, Browne established himself as a prolific producer and session musician, contributing to hundreds of recordings across multiple genres including reggae, dub, dancehall, and pop. The duo's influence on reggae production and rhythm sections cannot be overstated—they essentially created the blueprint for modern reggae rhythms. Browne's technical expertise and creative vision have made him one of the most respected figures in Jamaican music history, with a career spanning several decades.
