Christopher Reeve
Superman actor and spinal cord injury research advocate
Christopher D'Olier Reeve (September 25, 1952 – October 10, 2004) was an American actor and activist, most famous for his iconic portrayal of Superman/Clark Kent in four films (1978–1987). Born in Princeton, New Jersey, Reeve trained at Cornell University and the Juilliard School, where he was classmates with fellow future star Robin Williams. His Superman films, directed by Richard Donner, defined the superhero genre for a generation and established him as a major Hollywood star. Beyond Superman, Reeve demonstrated significant dramatic range in films like The Remains of the Day and Street Smart, earning a Golden Globe nomination. In May 1995, Reeve suffered a severe spinal cord injury when thrown from a horse during an equestrian competition, leaving him paralyzed from the neck down and dependent on a respirator. Rather than retreating from public life, Reeve became a powerful advocate for spinal cord injury research and disability rights, using his prominence to raise awareness and funding. He continued acting in television and behind the scenes, and authored memoirs detailing his accident and recovery journey. Reeve's transformation from Hollywood leading man to inspirational activist made him an enduring cultural icon, representing resilience and determination. He passed away in 2004, but his legacy continues through the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation, which funds spinal cord injury research.

Thinking about the name
Chrisopher
Greek origin
“A spelling variant of Christopher, derived from the Greek Christophoros, meaning 'bearer of Christ' or 'one who carries Christ.' Chrisopher maintains the classical meaning while offering a contemporary spelling variant. The name carries centuries of religious tradition and adventure, famously borne by Saint Christopher, patron of travelers.”
