Chrissy Hynde

Christine Ellen "Chrissy" Hynde (born September 7, 1951) is an American musician, singer, and songwriter who achieved international fame as the founder, lead vocalist, and primary songwriter of the rock band The Pretenders. Born in Akron, Ohio, Hynde moved to London in the 1970s and became involved in the emerging punk and new wave music scenes, eventually forming The Pretenders in 1978. The band achieved massive commercial and critical success with hits including "Brass in Pocket," "Don't Get Me Wrong," and "Back on the Chain Gang." Hynde's distinctive contralto voice, songwriting talent, and commanding stage presence became defining characteristics of the band's sound.
