Charleston Heston

Charleston Heston (1923–2008) was an American actor and political figure who became one of Hollywood's most recognizable leading men during the Golden Age of cinema. Born John Charles Carter in Evanston, Illinois, he adopted the stage name Charleston Heston early in his career. Heston gained fame for his commanding presence in large-scale historical and science fiction films, most notably winning the Academy Award for Best Actor for his role as Judah Ben-Hur in William Wyler's 1959 epic 'Ben-Hur.' He also starred in 'The Ten Commandments,' 'Planet of the Apes,' and 'Soylent Green,' becoming an iconic figure in popular culture. Beyond his film career, Heston was deeply involved in political and social causes, initially supporting the Civil Rights Movement before shifting toward conservative politics. He served as president of the Screen Actors Guild and later became a prominent spokesperson for the National Rifle Association, making him a polarizing figure in American public life.
