Carol Channing

Carol Elaine Channing (January 31, 1921 – January 15, 2019) was an American actress, singer, dancer, and comedian known for her distinctive appearance, voice, and comedic timing. Born in Seattle, Washington, Channing moved to New York to pursue a career in musical theater during the 1940s. Her breakthrough came in 1949 when she originated the role of Lorelei Lee in the Broadway musical 'Gentlemen Prefer Blondes,' a performance that became iconic and defined her career. Her rendition of the song 'Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend' became one of the most famous performances in Broadway history and was later immortalized in the 1953 film.
