Butch Vig, born Bryan Seth Vigorson in 1955, is an influential American musician, songwriter, and music producer who emerged from the Madison, Wisconsin music scene. Best known as the drummer and co-vocalist of Garbage, a band he formed in 1994 with producer Steve Marker and bassist Duke Erikson, Vig helped define the sound of 1990s alternative rock. Garbage's self-titled debut album achieved platinum status and established the band as innovative pioneers blending electronic music with live rock instrumentation.
