Butch Vig

Butch Vig, born Bryan Seth Vigorson in 1955, is an influential American musician, songwriter, and music producer who emerged from the Madison, Wisconsin music scene. Best known as the drummer and co-vocalist of Garbage, a band he formed in 1994 with producer Steve Marker and bassist Duke Erikson, Vig helped define the sound of 1990s alternative rock. Garbage's self-titled debut album achieved platinum status and established the band as innovative pioneers blending electronic music with live rock instrumentation. Beyond his work with Garbage, Vig's production credits are extraordinary—he engineered and produced seminal grunge albums, including Nirvana's landmark 'In Utero' and worked extensively with The Smashing Pumpkins and other major acts during the alternative rock explosion. His technical expertise and creative vision helped shape the sound of late 20th-century rock music. Vig continues recording and touring with Garbage while maintaining his production work, cementing his legacy as one of alternative rock's most important figures both as a performer and as a sonic architect.
