Bradley Manning

Bradley Manning (born December 17, 1987 – present), who later identified as Chelsea Manning, is an American former military intelligence analyst whose disclosure of classified documents to WikiLeaks became one of the most significant whistleblowing cases in modern history. While serving in the U.S. Army, Manning provided hundreds of thousands of confidential diplomatic cables and military reports to the whistleblowing website WikiLeaks, actions that Manning believed would spark public debate about U.S. military and diplomatic activities. The leaks exposed incidents including civilian casualties in Iraq and Afghanistan, detainee abuse, and diplomatic communications. Manning was arrested in 2010 and court-martialed, ultimately receiving a 35-year sentence in 2013. The case became a focal point for broader discussions about government transparency, the role of whistleblowers, and national security. In 2017, President Barack Obama commuted Manning's sentence to time served. Following her release, Manning came out as a transgender woman and adopted the name Chelsea Manning. She has since become an advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and transparency in government. Manning's case remains controversial and pivotal in ongoing debates about the balance between national security and public accountability.
