Robert Barisford Brown (February 5, 1969 – present) is an American R&B singer, songwriter, and dancer who rose to fame as a member of the boy band New Edition before launching a successful solo career. As part of New Edition, which formed in the early 1980s, Brown was one of the pioneering figures in the boy band phenomenon that would dominate pop music throughout the decade. His solo debut album 'Don't Be Cruel' (1988) was a commercial and critical success, spawning multiple hit singles including the title track and 'Every Little Step,' both reaching the top of the Billboard Hot 100. Beyond music, he appeared on television and in films, further expanding his entertainment portfolio. Though his commercial prominence diminished in the 2000s, Brown has continued performing and appeared on reality television, maintaining his presence in popular culture and remaining celebrated as a significant figure in the evolution of R&B and boy band history.
