Birdie Tebbetts

George Robert Tebbetts (May 10, 1912 – March 24, 1999), known universally as "Birdie" Tebbetts, was an American professional baseball player and manager who became one of baseball's most respected figures during the mid-20th century. Earning his nickname "Birdie" for his cheerful, personable disposition and bird-like whistle, Tebbetts played as a catcher for multiple teams including the Detroit Tigers, Boston Red Sox, and Cleveland Indians across a 14-year playing career.
