Bill Clinton
42nd U.S. President, economic growth era, impeachment trial
William Jefferson Clinton (August 19, 1946 – present) is an American politician who served as the 42nd President of the United States from 1993 to 2001. Born in Hope, Arkansas, Clinton rose through Arkansas politics, becoming the state's governor at 32. His presidential campaign in 1992 successfully capitalized on economic discontent, and he won the presidency with a centrist 'New Democrat' platform. Clinton's administration presided over a period of strong economic growth, low unemployment, and budget surpluses—a marked contrast to the recessions of previous decades. In foreign policy, he intervened in the Balkans during the humanitarian crises of the 1990s, expanded NATO, and oversaw significant Middle East peace initiatives. His personal conduct became a major political issue when an affair with White House intern Monica Lewinsky led to his impeachment by the House of Representatives in 1998 on charges of perjury and obstruction of justice, though he was acquitted by the Senate. Despite this scandal, Clinton maintained public approval and left office with high approval ratings. After his presidency, he established the Clinton Foundation and became an elder statesman, remaining active in public discourse and global humanitarian work.

Thinking about the name
Bill
Germanic origin
“A short form of William, derived from Germanic roots meaning 'resolute protector' or 'steadfast defender.' Bill became an independent name in its own right during the 20th century, offering approachable informality while retaining the strength of its royal namesake.”
