Arvilla Ida Squier
Early female aviator and silent film stunt performer
Arvilla Ida Squier (1901-1981) was an American aviator and stunt performer who gained recognition during the golden age of aviation in the 1920s. She became one of the early female pilots in the United States at a time when aviation was still a novel and dangerous pursuit dominated almost entirely by men. Squier performed aerial stunts for silent films and traveled extensively performing at air shows, demonstrating exceptional skill and fearlessness in an era when aircraft were highly unstable and flying was inherently risky. Her work as a female aviator helped challenge gender norms and inspired other women to pursue careers in aviation. Though not as widely remembered as some of her contemporaries, Squier represents an important chapter in the history of women in aviation and early Hollywood's stunt culture. Her pioneering efforts contributed to the gradual acceptance of women in the male-dominated field of aviation.
