Annette Joanne Funicello (October 22, 1942 – April 8, 2013) was an American actress, singer, dancer, and producer who became one of the most popular entertainers of the 1950s and 1960s. Born in Utica, New York, and raised in Burbank, California, Funicello demonstrated exceptional talent from childhood. She joined the original cast of 'The Mickey Mouse Club' at age thirteen, appearing regularly from 1955 to 1959, where she became the most popular Mouseketeer and earned the nickname 'The Queen of the Mouseketeers.' Her success on the show catapulted her to stardom and led to a recording career with several hit songs, including 'Oh, My Goodness' and 'Pineapple Princess.' Following her Mickey Mouse Club tenure, Funicello transitioned to film, becoming famous for her starring roles in a series of 'Beach Party' films alongside Frankie Avalon, which became cultural phenomena capturing the spirit of 1960s youth culture. These films, beginning with 'Beach Party' (1963), were commercially successful and helped define the surf and beach movie genre.
