Álvaro Obregón

Álvaro Obregón Salido (1880–1928) was a prominent Mexican military officer and statesman who became one of the most influential figures of the Mexican Revolution. Born in Navojoa, Sonora, Obregón rose to prominence as a general in the revolutionary forces, known for his military acumen and tactical innovations. He served as President of Mexico from 1920 to 1924, a period marked by relative stability and reconstruction following years of civil conflict. During his presidency, Obregón focused on agrarian reform, education, and national reconciliation, earning respect across the political spectrum. His administration is credited with bringing institutional order to Mexican governance and laying groundwork for the development of a strong centralized state. Obregón was known for his pragmatism and ability to navigate competing factions within the revolutionary movement. He was assassinated in 1928 by a religious extremist, an event that shocked Mexico and marked the end of an era in the country's political history.
