Alonzo Mourning (born February 8, 1970) is an American professional basketball player who spent most of his Hall of Fame career with the Miami Heat. Standing 6'10", Mourning was one of the NBA's most intimidating defensive players, earning All-Star selections seven times and All-NBA honors multiple times. He won back-to-back NBA championships with Miami in 2012 and 2013 as a veteran presence on LeBron James' championship teams. Before his Heat tenure, Mourning played for the Washington Bullets and Charlotte Hornets, establishing himself as a force in the paint with exceptional shot-blocking and rebounding skills. Off the court, Mourning has been deeply involved in philanthropy, particularly in kidney disease awareness and treatment after receiving a kidney transplant in 2003. His resilience in returning to professional basketball after his transplant became an inspiration to many. Mourning was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2014, cementing his legacy as one of the greatest defensive centers in NBA history.
