Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez
U.S. Congresswoman, progressive political leader
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (born October 13, 1989), commonly known as AOC, is an American politician and activist who has served as the U.S. Representative for New York's 14th congressional district since 2019. She made history as one of the youngest women ever elected to Congress at age 29. Before entering politics, Ocasio-Cortez worked as a bartender and community organizer, an experience that shaped her advocacy for working-class Americans. She quickly became a leading voice of the progressive wing of the Democratic Party, championing the Green New Deal, Medicare for All, and student debt forgiveness. Her sophisticated use of social media and grassroots organizing tactics have made her influential among younger voters and her generation. Despite controversial rhetoric from political opponents, she has maintained strong approval ratings within her district and has become a cultural icon and symbol of a new generation in American politics. Her memoir and continued activism have extended her influence beyond Congress.

Thinking about the name
Alexandra
Greek origin
“The classical feminine form of Alexander, derived from the same Greek roots meaning 'defender of men' but reframed as a woman of strength and protection. Alexandra has graced queens, scientists, and artists across centuries, most notably Tsar Nicholas II's wife; it carries both regal authority and intellectual sophistication. The name is timeless without feeling dated, strong without aggression.”
