Ahmir Questlove Thompson

Ahmir Questlove Thompson was born on January 20, 1971, and is best known by his stage name Questlove. He is the drummer, percussionist, and one of the primary creative forces behind the legendary hip-hop band The Roots, which he co-founded in Philadelphia in the early 1990s. The Roots became known for their live instrumentation and innovative approach to hip-hop, collaborating with numerous artists across genres and serving as the house band for NBC's 'The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon' since 2014. Beyond drumming, Questlove has established himself as a prolific music journalist, author, and cultural commentator. He wrote the memoir 'Mo' Meta Blues' and has contributed essays to major publications. In 2022, he won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature for 'Summer of Soul (...Or, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised),' a film about the 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival.
