Adolphe Thiers

Louis-Adolphe Thiers (1797–1877) was a French statesman, historian, and politician who played a crucial role in 19th-century French politics. Born in Marseille, Thiers pursued careers in both historiography and government, becoming known for his scholarly works on the French Revolution and Napoleonic era. He served as Prime Minister under King Louis-Philippe and was instrumental in various political reforms and foreign policy decisions. After the Franco-Prussian War of 1870–1871, Thiers was elected Chief of the Executive Power and later served as President of the Third Republic from 1871 to 1873. During this period, he oversaw France's recovery from military defeat, managed the Paris Commune crisis, and worked to restore national stability and economic strength. Thiers was renowned for his oratorical skills, political acumen, and ability to navigate the turbulent politics of his era. His tenure helped establish the foundations of the Third Republic, which would last until 1940. As both a historian and statesman, Thiers left an indelible mark on French cultural and political life, with his historical writings remaining influential into the modern era.
